My AI Reads Every Newsletter for Me

Cool Shit I Built With AI, Part 6. I stopped reading my newsletters and started getting more out of them. Built from two things I already had.

My AI Reads Every Newsletter for Me

This one gets me excited, because I built it by myself.

Here is the problem it solves. We are subscribed to a ton of newsletters. Real estate. Workforce. Marketing. Economic development. Every one of them is genuinely good, that is why I subscribed. Newsletters put you onto new technologies, new processes, trends in your industry.

And I honestly don’t even have time to read them.

They pile up in the inbox with that little tug of guilt. Someday I will catch up. Someday never comes.

The move: connect two things I already had

By this point in the series I had two systems running:

  • My Obsidian brain (Part 2): everything I am working on, in one vault the AI can read.
  • My email triage agent (Part 4): AI that already reads and sorts my inbox every morning.

So the newsletter agent is not a new tool. It is a bridge between two old ones. That is the lesson of this episode before I even explain it: once you have a couple of AI systems, the next build is mostly connections. It compounds.

What the agent does

  1. Scans my email for newsletters and pulls them out of the flood.
  2. Categorizes them. Real estate here, workforce there, marketing over there.
  3. Reads them. Actually reads them, every issue, every section.
  4. Connects to my brain and asks one question: what is Daniel working on right now?
  5. Finds the synergies. Where does something in this week’s newsletters touch something on my desk?

And every week I get one report instead of twenty unread newsletters. Not a pile of summaries. The boiled-down version, plus the things to do next to make an impact on my community.

That last part matters to me. I run an economic development office. The point of staying informed was never trivia. It is finding the grant, the trend, the program that helps my town. The report ends with actions, not facts.

Why “synergy” is the whole trick

A summary tool answers: what did this newsletter say?

My agent answers a better question: what does this newsletter mean for what I am doing right now?

Same articles, completely different value. And the only reason it can answer the better question is the Obsidian brain. The AI knows my projects, so it reads everything through that lens. Without the brain, this build is just another summarizer.

Steal it

  1. Start a brain if you have not. One vault of notes about your projects and priorities. Part 2 has the full setup. Even ten notes is enough to start.

  2. Let AI at your newsletters. Tell it how to spot them and which categories you care about.

  3. Give it the magic instruction. Read every newsletter, check my notes for what I am working on, and report only the overlaps, with a suggested next step for each.

  4. Make it weekly. Daily is noise, monthly is stale. One report every week, and unsubscribe from nothing. The guilt is gone because nothing goes unread anymore. It is just not you doing the reading.

Your turn

This is for you to steal, if you have newsletters, or if you want to build a brain.

Let me know in the comments how I can help. That is not a figure of speech. Tell me what you are working with and I will point you at the first step.

This is Part 6 of Cool Shit I Built With AI. It connects the second brain from Part 2 with the inbox agent from Part 4. The videos are on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube at @danielonpurpose.

If this resonated, the newsletter is where it continues — one honest email at a time.
